fashion stone building Granny Clampett lodge hotel hat

This stone house was a landmark in the woods around Gloucester Pool. It was build in 1890 by Joseph White and his family. The thick stone walls were supposedly built from rock brought in from Parry Sound - 75 kilometers away, a major distance in those days and a questionable fact in that the local property had plenty of its own rock.

The stone house went through many extensions and renovations over time, most memorable being the years it was a tourist lodge and tavern, and although the rock was mostly gray and brown it was called Whitestone Lodge for now obvious reasons. Talk to many locals today and you'll hear tales of fond memories and plenty of laughs from Whitestone

The building was demolished in 2016 after falling to the elements and becoming impractical to restore.
